Technology is becoming more and more advanced, who knows what the future will hold?!  Things are advancing at lightning speed, and we are very fortunate to be living during this era, right?  Mmmmm, well, sometimes you really have to wonder!!

The day is January 21, 2014.  The weathermen have predicted that an Arctic Cold Front is coming our way, following a period of rather mild temperatures.  There will be snow overnight, with accumulation of up to ??? inches, in our area of Massachusetts. You all know the story by now …

Having been mentally prepared for this, my son and I figure that the smart thing to do is add extra layers, if we get cold.  He works all day, but took a nice shower after work, and donned his flannel PJ’s, in preparation of a nice cozy evening.

Earlier in the day, I had also dug out my long johns from skiing years ago.  Put them on under my clothes, and figured I was ready for anything.  Right?  Well, one would think so anyway.

It kept getting colder and colder.  My son showed me his cold hands, and proceeded to put on half gloves while he worked at his computer.  This finally got me to go and check the thermostat.  Hmmm, there was no display!  Was the light shining on it the wrong way, so that I couldn’t see it?  You know how those electronic displays are often difficult to read if the light shines on it from the wrong direction.   Got a flashlight and shone that on the thermostat.  Nope, that wasn’t it.  There was *no* display!!!

OK, it’s electronic, so the first thing you do is check the power, right?!  But I had this installed by an electrician.  The lights are on.  The thermostat is connected to the wall and *should* have current running through it, right?!

Wrong!!!!!!!!!  Honeywell designed a thermostat, which is installed to electrically turn you furnace on and off, as needed.  But the thermometer, which it uses to sense the temperature with, needs 2 AAA batteries!!!  How’s that for advanced planning??

It was 59F.  It wouldn’t matter if you have a backup generator in case of power failure, or not.  If you don’t have those 2 spare AAA batteries, your pipes are going to freeze!

Good thing it wasn’t later at night, and I was fast asleep under layers of blankets, while the pipes slowly went to their demise.

Latest Versions of Browsers.

I took "the Challenge" and downloaded Internet Explorer 9  today.

Hmmm... funny, how all of the browsers used to have all kinds of Menu's everywhere, showing you your options.  The latest trend is not to show you anything except for 3 or four icons which will take you to the menu's that we used to have.  Good thing I got to practice with the old browsers.  Wonder how folks who are new to this stuff will figure out where their settings are?  Or the fact that they actually *have* settings!  (lol)

I was afraid that it might be "buggy" since it hasn't been around that long (has it? ;).  But it seems to be quite stable.  And I like the wide viewing area that it has.

Funny thing is that I downloaded the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (buggy imho), and Google Chrome (finally caught up with the technology of games played on FB  imho  ;) before I downloaded the latest version of IE.  Even though IE is my main browser.  I was afraid to mess it up with a new version... lol.

I downloaded Firefox and Chrome because I needed secondary browsers in order to play all of my gaming accounts at FaceBook.... lol

Ahhh, the intrecacies of Online game playing!  (grin)

And where did my "spell check" go at this site?  hmmm .... ;)

Returning to Posterous

I have spent a very long time playing games on Facebook.  I've built up 5, yes five farms at Farm Town!  (lol)  YoVille now has 5 of my accounts also.  The only one I paid real money for was Farm Town, and a wee bit for Yoville.

What started all of this?  Well, it was the death of my husband in 2009. If every writer needs a muse, then mine ,must have been my husband.  Lost  him, and I lost my imagination, I guess.

Now, I'm finally starting to feel less depressed, and I can think about other subjects, without returning to how he slowly passed away to Cancer... Ugh!  If you've gone through this with a loved one, then you know what I mean.  If you haven't, then thank your lucky stars, and forget about it ... for now.

I'm hoping to be able to write again?!  :)
Well, we'll see what happens, and if anyone is left who is still reading my blog ... lol

Was just listing to Joni Mitchell's song again.  The seasons go round and round ... yep, started listening to that song when I was in my 20's and now my own son is 26.  Can't do anything but look behind and keep going ... on and on ... in the circle game.

How are y'all doing in your own "Circle Games"?

Massachusetts Senatorial Race, Tuesday January 19, 2010

Brown_BushCompar_50

Boy, do I feel important!  Today I got a telephone call from President Obama.  Well, O.K. so it was a recorded message.  :)

Still, our states election for a new U.S. Senator to replace Ted Kennedy, has taken on a turn of importance, unknown to any election of it’s kind, in the history of this state.

We are being barraged by advertisements from all sorts of political groups.  Even Presidents Obama and former president Clinton, have come (or are coming) to support Martha Coakley, the Democratic Parties Nominee.

Race for Senate .

She is running against Scott P. Brown, whom some have compared to a “Ken Doll”.  (lol)  Not so funny really because we all know that handsome looking people have a better chance of being elected.

Not that Martha isn’t good looking, she is.  But she’s following in the footsteps of Ted Kennedy, and Scott Brown, has launched his “Grass Roots” campaign, against her.  He’s playing “The good old boy” card; or in this case, the good *young* father card.  He drives a truck, to get around on his campaign trail…  well,  a large group of young folks can relate to that, can’t they?!

He’s gathering all of those voters who want to see *change* in a big way.

So I received the above card in the mail today, which I thought was rather creative  (lol).  Brown has been voting more Republican, than Liberal (which he claims his view are).

Why all the ado?  Well, the vote of this senator, once they are elected; could make or break President Obama’s much fought for Health Care Bill!

Pretty scary, isn’t it?!!!  Is my one vote going to help?

Just in case, I urged DS (Dear Son) to go and vote.  He didn’t bother with the Primary (sigh)….

Suddenly his enthusiasm perked up when I told him that it was about the Health Care Bill which they have been attempting to formulate for so long.  Wanted to know which one was *for* the health care bill (sigh).

Then again, I remember being young and not giving a hoot about politics either.  Guess paying taxes, etc. makes one pay closer attention to things like that!

CFS Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Someone asked me the other day what CFS is.

Today I found a very good video explaining it here:

Just trying to spread the word, "Yes, it does exist!"

"And yes, it really is a lousy condition to be in!"

Before I contacted it I led a life... since then, I mostly *watch* life via the Internet! (grrr)

Where I've been!

I suddenly realized that I haven’t been active on the net again.  I had been having a wonderful time at Twitter, and all of the little “weblets” that are associated with it!  (grin)

Then I was overwhelmed  by the lurkers that add you to their friends list there.  Twitter was making some changes again, and I wasn’t able to delete the “unwanted” the way I could before.  So that turned me off that site.

Couldn’t think of anything to blog about, so that finished a few more sites.

Got CFS brain fog and slept for what seemed like days.  Woke up, only to find that DS’s car would cost $2,000.00 to repair.  This on a 2001 Ford Mustang, that was his first car.  Erhemm… it wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but youthful inexperience did kind of take a toll on it.  The mileage was up to 96,000 plus.  Soo, we decided that a new more energy efficient car might be a better choice.

He went out with a friend of his on day one, and almost bought a Kia.  Gulp, guess they don’t have a very good reputation.  At least, the other dealers kept telling us how bad the Kia was!?  Hmm, who know…

We then went out to several dealers checking what they had available in the size he was looking for.  Couldn’t convince him to buy a small car with great mileage.  Ah well, he’s buying it with $$ his dad put in a trust fund for him.  He’ll find out how quickly $$ disappear, once one starts spending them… (sigh)!

After looking in at every Honda, Toyota, Nissan, even a Ford, etc dealership in the area, we finally ended up with a Toyota Rav4 he chose the blue one.  Too big for my liking and too low on gas mileage, but DS loves it!  So that’s good.  I hope that he and the vehicle will have many happy and healthy years together!  :)

~*~*~*~*~

Then I remembered that I’d signed up for an online course about Finance, back in May.  Had dropped said project for my excursion into the Twitter and Blogging world.  Ooops, it was time to get back on *that* track also.

So that’s what I’ve been doing the last week or so.  Catching up on the course, running back and forth to the Registry of Motor vehicles, contacting our insurance agent, and doing food shopping in between.  And sleeping!  Doing lots and lots of sleeping; I keep hoping one of these days, it will be enough sleep for my old body, and I’ll kick the CFS.  Yeah, right, “I doubt it”!

I have until the 10th to finish the course.  So far I’ve had good luck with my brain power returning, after I sleep for a while.  Only two more chapters and the final; to go.

DS has gone to visit his Girl friend over the Holiday.  All is quiet here, except for the fur kids, sometimes making requests!  (lol)

Well, ttyl!  Hope that all are having a nice weekend, and/or a nice 4th of July!

hugs,
